Hasrat Mohani was born in a place known as Mohaan in Uttar Pradesh in 1875 in British India. He was great poet and a freedom fighter. He passed away in 1951 in independent India.

His actual name was Fazlur Rehman but he used to write under a pen name Hasrat. He is popularly known as Hasrat Mohani. He was a pious muslim and a devotee of lord Krishna as well. Flute was his prized possession even when he was in jail. Lot of his poetry was written when he was serving his jail term. He was a follower of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and was jailed on numerous occasions for his views on British empire and for espousing the cause of Indian independence from British Raj. He used to take out a vernacular Urdu-e-Mualla and used to create awareness among the masses for the independence movement. When his vernacular was forcibly shut-down, he started a swadeshi store.
